Questions

Before you book.

Everything first-timers and collectors ask us about custom design, booking, pricing and aftercare. Still curious? Ask your artist during your free consult.

What is the tattoo design process?

It starts with a free consultation where you share your idea, references, size and placement. Your artist sketches a custom design, refines it with you, then positions the stencil so you can approve it on your body before any ink goes in.

Can I design my own tattoo?

Yes. Bring your own drawing or concept and your artist will adapt it so it tattoos cleanly and ages well on skin, while keeping what makes it yours.

Do your artists draw custom designs?

Every artist at The KCHN Tattoos draws custom work. Most pieces we tattoo are designed from scratch for one client and never repeated.

How does the studio approach custom tattoo requests?

Collaboratively. We match you with the artist whose style fits your idea, talk through meaning, size and placement, then build the design around your body and the way it moves.

Can I collaborate on my tattoo design?

Absolutely. You will see sketches, give feedback and approve the final layout. Our artists treat the design as a conversation, not a handoff.

How do I communicate my tattoo ideas?

Share reference photos, the feeling you want, the size and where it will go. Rough notes and screenshots are perfect. Your artist will translate them into a design that works as a tattoo.

What techniques are used in tattoo design?

Realism relies on smooth grey gradients, soft shading and strong contrast. Blackwork uses saturated solid black and bold line weight. Fine line depends on single-needle precision and steady, consistent ink flow.

Can I modify my tattoo design later?

Before your session, revisions are part of the process. After a tattoo heals, additions and rework are possible in a new session, and your artist will tell you honestly what will and will not work.

What should I bring to my design session?

Inspiration images, any personal references such as portraits or pet photos, and a clear idea of placement and size. High-resolution photos make the biggest difference for realism.

How does the artist ensure design accuracy?

Through approved sketches, careful sizing and a stencil you check in the mirror before we start. Nothing goes on skin until you are happy with it.

Are there specific themes for custom tattoos?

Anything meaningful to you: portraits, wildlife, religious and mythological imagery, florals, scripts and names, or memorial pieces. If it matters to you, we can design it.

How does the studio use client feedback?

We review healed results with clients, learn from every piece and keep refining how we design, tattoo and explain aftercare.

What should I expect during the design process?

Open communication, a sketch or two, honest advice about size and placement, and a final design that is tailored to you.

How does the studio handle design revisions?

We refine the design with you until it feels right. Small changes are normal and welcome before the session date.
